Christian mystery author Kaye Brownstone writes stories filled with small-town secrets, faith, redemption, and ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances. Readers often ask about the inspiration behind her novels, including Whispers of Kith and Kin, so she shares a little about her background, her faith, and why she writes the stories she does.

Hi friend,

I’m so glad you’re here. Over the past few months, readers have asked me some wonderful questions, so I thought I’d take a moment to tell you a little about the person behind the stories and answer a few of the things you’ve been curious about.

Who is Kaye Brownstone?

I am a Central Kentucky-based author of Christian mysteries and faith-based adventure fiction for middle grade readers.

If you were to ask me what I consider the most important thing about myself, I’d tell you that, though my feet are firmly planted in Kentucky soil for now, this world is not my home. I am a beloved child of God living in hope and confidence that one day I’ll be called home—my true home—the place my heart has always been homesick for.

Why do I write?

I was raised in a home where stories and Scripture lived side by side. My mother always encouraged my love of story. We didn’t have a lot growing up, but we had a library. I can still remember the amazement I felt the first time my momma took me to our small county library. Later, a bookmobile would park down the road by my Papaw’s pond. For me, it was like entering a magical wonderland on wheels.

My father, a Southern Baptist preacher for forty years, was steady, compassionate, and a life-long learner. Week after week, I watched him seek the Lord and shape each sermon with thought and prayer. From him, I learned that words carry weight and that truth deserves care.

Before I ever thought about publishing a book, I wore many hats—camp counselor, homeschool teacher, transcriptionist, appraiser, ASL interpreter, and a few others along the way. I also spent over twenty years working with youth and college students at my church. Those years taught me that truth and transparency transform and that words can heal or harm.

Through the years, those lessons have stayed the same. Story still helps us see God in the everyday mess of life. Truth still matters. Transparency still changes hearts. And God’s Word still undergirds it all—both in life and on the page.

What sparked the story of Whispers of Kith and Kin?

For me, every mystery starts with a “what if.” Whispers of Kith and Kin began with my work as an appraiser and the thought of what would happen if I walked into the middle of a crime scene. I’ve walked into plenty of interesting, beautiful, ugly, unsavory, and sometimes scary situations over the years, and the question never left me: what would I do if I opened the wrong door at the worst possible time? That question eventually found its way into a story.

What do I enjoy most about being an author? (It’s not marketing, that’s for ding-dang sure.)

Sharing the stories is only half the joy; the other half is getting to know the readers who find them. Community is one of my favorite parts of writing. I enjoy getting to know readers, hearing your thoughts, and seeing where the story meets real life. Your encouragement and thoughtful messages are a true gift to a writer sitting at her desk, wondering if the story will matter to anyone.

Along those lines, I’d love to connect with you on my Facebook Author Page, where I post updates, glimpses of upcoming projects, and the occasional photo of Finn. There’s also more to explore on my website, including blog posts, updates, and past newsletters.

Finn the Shih Tzu asks readers to leave a review for Whispers of Kith and Kin by Kaye Brownstone.

For an independent author, that visibility matters more than ads ever could. And truly, a review doesn’t require anything elaborate. A single line like “I liked it!” is enough to help the book reach someone new.

Since we’ve been talking about books and community, I’d love to hear from you. Did you know you can email me by simply replying to this message?

Whether you want to share a favorite scene or moment from the story, ask a question about the book, let me know what you’d enjoy seeing more of here, or pass along a prayer request, my inbox is always open. Sometimes the best conversations start with a simple reply.

Also—did you know fan art is a thing? If you draw, paint, or even just scribble, I’d love to see how a scene or character looks through your eyes. I’ll share it on Facebook and feature it on my website (with your permission).

Whether you’re a longtime mystery reader or new to Christian fiction, I hope my stories remind you that God is at work even in life’s most difficult circumstances. Through the Whispers Christian Mystery series and future novels, my goal is to tell stories of faith, hope, redemption, and the extraordinary grace found in ordinary lives.

Thank you for reading, for supporting my stories, and for walking alongside me as these chapters unfold. I’m looking forward to all that lies ahead, one faithful step at a time…until He calls us home.

With gratitude,

~~Kaye
